Sweet chestnut

📍 8QPF+P5 Trowbridge, UK
Sweet chestnut Public
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
European chestnuts: burs split on the tree in September–October. Collect from the ground daily. Cook before eating — roast, boil, or dry and grind. Score the flat side before roasting to prevent explosion.
Part of the Widbrook Woods millennial planting. The tree is on the left at a crossing/clearing just after you cross over a footbridge over the brook. There must be loads of other fruit/nut trees. I've searched online, but cannot find a list other than what is mentioned https://www.wiltshirewildlife.org/widbrook-wood-trowbridge "ash, cherry, poplar, willow and oak trees. Over 40,000 trees have been planted with planting completed in 2000."
