Black walnut

📍 Kenwood Park, 821 N Kenwood Park Dr, Salina, KS 67401, USA
Black walnut
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Lots of Edible Black Walnut Trees. I'm sure the guys that mow these parks appreciate it when people clear some of the fallen nuts(they turn into projectiles).
