🌳
Garlic mustard
📍 1101 38th St SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, USA
🗓 Season: March · April · May
🔍 When is it ripe?
Heart-shaped lower leaves and triangular upper leaves; white 4-petalled flowers. Harvest young leaves before or during flowering. Raw taste is garlicky and mustard-hot. Seeds can be used as a mustard substitute. Invasive in North America.
Quite a bit of Garlic Mustard can be found around the neighborhood itself, as well as within Bever Park (which is nearby).
It's unfortunately invasive and can only be fully removed by pulling the whole plant up, root and all. But it is also edible.
You can harvest without issue from the park but if it's on someone's property definitely ask them first.
