Black locust

πŸ“ 304 Funston Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49014, USA
Black locust Public
πŸ—“ Season: May
πŸ” When is it ripe?
Flowers (white, fragrant clusters) are edible in May and can be eaten raw, fried in batter, or made into syrup. The seeds and green pods are toxic β€” do not eat. Harvest flowers only.
There is a grove of young black locust trees, they are not mature enough for flowers, but the flowers are edible, everything else is not. These trees are right on the side of the ATV path. There are also one or two more mature, but still very young black locust trees a little bit down the path.
