🔍 When is it ripe?
Cherry plum: Turns red, yellow, or purple depending on variety; flesh gives slightly under thumb pressure. Taste-test — ripe ones are sweet-tart with little astringency. Drops easily from stem when gently twisted.
Midland hawthorn: Similar to common hawthorn; red haws ripen September–October. Best for jelly and preserves. Flowers and young leaves also edible.
Turkish hazel: Similar to common hazel; husks form a distinctive fringed cluster. Ripe when husks brown and nuts fall. Good flavour.
