Black walnut
📍 Leverich Park Disc Golf Course, 4209 NE Leverich Park Way, Vancouver, WA 98663, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Huge black walnut at the entrance to Leverich Park. Very high yield, walnuts all over the ground and lots of low branches with reachable nuts on sidewalk and on all sides of the tree. I've harvested more walnuts here than any other tree I've been checking. Not dried yet so can't comment on quality but they're big! Public land far as I know.
