🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
There is a stand of blackberry bushes here where the road turns in to the parking along the foot trail. This is public land. I called the county when I harvested two years ago and was informed they were available to the public. I picked 4 quarts of berries and there were plenty more.
