Black locust
π 576 Main St, Watertown, NY 13601, USA
π Season: May
π When is it ripe?
Flowers (white, fragrant clusters) are edible in May and can be eaten raw, fried in batter, or made into syrup. The seeds and green pods are toxic β do not eat. Harvest flowers only.
A fair number of black locust trees in the parking area and on the portage trail (portage trail is not accessible for public access unless you're using it to portage around the falls); there may be trees along the fishing access that is public access as well but I have not checked)
Pods ripen late july to mid-August; can be harvested slightly later than mid-August but will be dried out and a bit past prime
