🔍 When is it ripe?
Dark blue-black berries on red stalks. Edible but rarely used. The bark and roots (root beer flavour) contain safrole — regulated. Young leaves can be dried and ground as filé powder for gumbo.
the farmer is super nice and would more than likely let you take some if you ask you can pick up some eggs while your there too. the sassafras can be found in a stand of pine trees between the house and the field.
