🔍 When is it ripe?
Sage: Harvest young, grey-green leaves before or during flowering for best flavour. Woody older leaves are less aromatic. Dry well for year-round use. Flowers are edible as a garnish.
elderberry: Dark blue-black clusters when ripe. Cook thoroughly before eating — raw berries are mildly toxic. Ripe when all berries are dark and clusters hang downward.
Open field in front of Chatsworth Nature Preserve has tons of wild edibles. The land around Chatsworth Canyon is contaminated from Rocketdyne rocket testing and is designated a nuclear hazard zone.
