🔍 When is it ripe?
Green outer husk splits and darkens; nuts fall or shake loose. Remove husks immediately and cure for 2 weeks to develop full flavour. Gloves prevent staining.
There are several walnut trees (I think they are Persian or English) on the west side of NE 22nd Ave between NE Oregon St. and NE Pacific St. You know they are ready to harvest when the crows start eating the fruit. They will eat the fallen nuts that get crushed by the passing vehicles.
