🌳
Serviceberry
📍 2 Croton Point Ave, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520, USA
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Several serviceberry trees on public land (Village of Croton), very easy access along sidewalk in mowed lawn area. Particularly good flavor on one or two of the trees. There is often idling traffic nearby (commuter train rush-hours), so particulate/exhaust deposition on fruits may be a concern for some.
