Sweet chestnut

📍 Ōtāhuhu / Mount Richmond 1110 Great South Road, Mount Wellington, Auckland 1060, New Zealand
Sweet chestnut
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
European chestnuts: burs split on the tree in September–October. Collect from the ground daily. Cook before eating — roast, boil, or dry and grind. Score the flat side before roasting to prevent explosion.
Mature Chestnut tree. Entering from Great South Rd through the gate to the walking path. Take the right hand path and just a few metres up from the chlorination building is found a large Chestnut tree off to the left of the path. Ripe in autumn, possibly March to May
