🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Yellow plums come in shortly after the darker ones do in the tree right next to it. It's in the same little orchard, round the side of Tesco. A few of these trees scattered around here! Plums are tart but lovely to bake with.
