🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
There are several large blackberry bushes bordering the sidewalk on the plot of land between the Chevron station and the northwest access ramp to I-20. Berries are plentiful and they taste good. You might get some strange looks from drivers sitting at the nearby traffic light, but they don't know what they're missing!
