🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
tree grows over the railing right to picking height. fruit is usually smaller than 3 inches unless someone comes along in the summer to thin out the small or lumpy ones. a few yards closer to the ferry,there is another apple tree just like it. pick fruit from upper street/sidewalk level, but don't climb down the tree to fenced in area (restricted, mta-only land)
