European pear

European pear Public
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Pick when background colour shifts from green to yellow-green and the stem separates cleanly. Finish ripening indoors — flesh near the stem should give slightly when pressed.
6 pear trees on the property of Engine Company #2 for the East Moline, Illinois Fire Department. The fruit is high quality with no blemishes or insect damage. The receptionist at the desk said that they were planted in approximately 2010 as a project by one of their firewomen. The receptionist assured me that the trees are not sprayed and that anyone is welcome to take a few for personal use. The trees are along the sidewalk on the northwest corner of the intersection of Morton Drive and 19th Street (Route 84) in East Moline, Illinois. The fruit should be ripe in early September.
