European pear

📍 1614 Mt Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338, USA
European pear Public
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Pick when background colour shifts from green to yellow-green and the stem separates cleanly. Finish ripening indoors — flesh near the stem should give slightly when pressed.
This pear tree is adjacent to the Cheek-Spruill House built in 1906 and was likely part of the original property when it was a farm. This tree is standard size (you will need a ladder to pick fruit), and probably of the Concorde variety or something similar. The tree tends to suffer from pear scab, which is why fruit quality is listed as 'poor'. It is old and nearing the end of its life, but always has plenty of fruit. The tree is along the public sidewalk, well outside the fence around the old house - I'm almost certain it's public property.
