🔍 When is it ripe?
Black raspberry: Deep purple-black, duller than blackberries. Separates from the hollow core like a red raspberry. Richer, more intense flavour than red raspberry. Short season — harvest daily.
Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus): Deep black and pulls free with zero resistance. Juicy and sweet; no red remaining at the core. Harvest in the morning when cool.
Blueberry: Deep blue-purple with a silvery bloom; stem scar (not stem) at the top. Taste is the best test — a truly ripe blueberry is sweet and has no pink flesh inside. Let the cluster go fully blue before picking the whole thing.
This entire area has trails all through it, and is used by locals as a hiking or dog walking spot. It is also littered with wild fruit bushes. I have not personally seen any true raspberry here, but there is black raspberry, as well as trailing blackberry and low-bush blueberry.
